Taken from old site; new words you can learn:

Primitive - belonging to an early stage of technical development; characterized by simplicity and (often) crudeness

Interlace - spin,wind, or twist together

Imperious - having or showing arrogant superiority to and disdain of those one views as unworthy

Sate - fill to satisfaction

Egotistical - characteristic of those having an inflated idea of their own importance

Treachery - betrayal of a trust

Menacing - threatening or foreshadowing evil or tragic developments

Ebb - a gradual decline (in size or strength or power or number)

Impending - close in time; about to occur

Calamity - an event resulting in great loss and misfortune

Assail - attack someone physically or emotionally

Metamorphose - change completely the nature or appearance of

Ferocity - the property of being wild or turbulent

Wrench - a sharp strain on muscles or ligaments

Conciliate - cause to be more favorably inclined; gain the good will of

Impartial - showing lack of favoritism

Appeasement - the act of appeasing (as by acceding to the demands of)

Ravenous - extremely hungry

Blunder - an embarrassing mistake

Ruthless - without mercy or pity

Ignominious - (used of conduct or character) deserving or bringing disgrace or shame

Cunning - attractive especially by means of smallness or prettiness or quaintness

Acuteness - a sensitivity that is keen and highly developed

Conspicuous - obvious to the eye or mind

Primeval - having existed from the beginning; in an earliest or original stage or state

Malingerer - someone shirking their duty by feigning illness or incapacity

Contemplation - a long and thoughtful observation

Eddy - a miniature whirlpool or whirlwind resulting when the current of a fluid doubles back on itself

Daunt - cause to lose courage

Covert - secret or hidden; not openly practiced or engaged in or shown or avowed

Culprit - someone who perpetrates wrongdoing

Boreal - relating to or marked by qualities associated with the north wind

Articulate - expressing yourself easily or characterized by clear expressive language

Exultant - joyful and proud especially because of triumph or success

Obdurate - stubbornly persistent in wrongdoing

Comply - act in accordance with someone's rules, commands, or wishes

Unruly - noisy and lacking in restraint or discipline

Flounder - walk with great difficulty

Exertion - use of physical or mental energy; hard work

Apprehensive - quick to understand

Remonstrance - the act of expressing earnest opposition or protest

Abide - dwell

Whoop - a loud hooting cry of exultation or excitement

Inexorable - not to be placated or appeased or moved by entreaty

Superfluous - serving no useful purpose; having no excuse for being

Mongrel - derogatory term for a variation that is not genuine; something irregular or inferior or of dubious origin

Quibble - an evasion of the point of an argument by raising irrelevant distinctions or objections

Contagion - any disease easily transmitted by contact

Grit - a hard coarse-grained siliceous sandstone
